SIMB Announces JIMB Editor-in-Chief Transition
Posted 7/26/23 by James Earle. Filed under Uncategorized.Fairfax, VA (July 26, 2023) – The Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology’s flagship journal for the community, the Journal of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology (JIMB), will soon have new leadership!
A Message from JIMB‘s Outgoing Editor-in-Chief
Editor-in-Chief Ramon Gonzalez will be stepping down as Editor-in-Chief of JIMB to assume his new role as President-Elect of SIMB effective August 2. Ramon had previously served as a senior editor for JIMB as well as a Director on the SIMB Board, and he oversaw many changes at JIMB since he became Editor-in-Chief in 2015, including moving to a new publisher, Oxford University Press, its transition to open access, and recently to a continuous publication model as well. The JIMB website also received an updated layout, including a new section on “Editor’s Choice” which is a selection of articles chosen by the Editor-in-Chief.
We asked Ramon to reflect on his accomplished tenure at JIMB:
It has been a great privilege and honor to serve as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology (JIMB) for the last 8 years. It is with mixed emotions that I step down from this role as I take on new responsibilities both within and beyond SIMB. I would like to thank JIMB editors and editorial board members, authors, reviewers, SIMB leadership, the Oxford University Press team, and the industrial microbiology and biotechnology community at large for their support. Together we have worked tirelessly to improve JIMB and have accomplished so much. JIMB is now published as an open access journal and with a restructured editorial board, a highly coveted collection of special issues and a solid impact factor, its visibility and quality of publications have reached new heights.
Thank you, Ramon!
Announcing JIMB‘s New Editor-In-Chief
As we look to JIMB‘s future, SIMB is pleased to announce the journal’s next Editor-in-Chief will be Yi Tang, the Chancellor Professor at the University of California Los Angeles Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.
Yi has received a variety of accolades for his outstanding work, including SIMB’s Charles Thom award, and he recently co-chaired the program committee for SIMB’s 4th International Conference on Natural Product Discovery and Development in the Genomic Era in January 2023.
Preparing for this new role at JIMB, Yi shared the following message:
I am excited to take over the editor position from Dr. Gonzalez who has done a fabulous job with the journal. I am looking forward to working with scientists and engineers from both academia and industry to promote and communicate cutting-edge research activities in the areas of microbiology, synthetic biology and biotechnology.
Ramon is “delighted that Professor Yi Tang, who currently serves as a JIMB Editor, is becoming the next Editor-in-Chief”. Ramon continues to say, “With him at the helm, I am confident that JIMB will not only continue its trajectory of excellence but also become one of the top journals in applied microbiology and biotechnology”.
Meet the Editors!
Yi and Ramon will be attending the 2023 SIMB Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Minneapolis from July 30 – August 2, and will be hosting a meet-and-greet at SIMB’s Booth #34 during the opening reception on Sunday, July 30, from 6:30 pm – 7:15 pm. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind opportunity to connect with these two outstanding leaders!
