The Charles Porter Award recognizes meritorious service to the Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology (SIMB) as exemplified by Charles Porter, co-founder of the SIMB. The award this year will be presented to Badal Saha, PhD on Thursday, July 28 at the Award Banquet.<\/p>\n
Badal Saha received his B.S. in Microbial Biochemistry from Dhaka University, Post-graduate Diploma in Microbiology & Biotechnology from Osaka University, and M.S. and Ph.D. in Microbial Technology from Kyushu University. Currently, he serves as a Lead Scientist at USDA-ARS, Peoria, IL. Badal has over 32 years of research experience in Fermentation and Biotechnology. He has authored 175 research publications that include book chapters and review articles; 9 patents, 195 meeting abstracts and has given 115 meeting presentations and 46 invited seminars. He has written 2 books, edited 4 books, organized\/chaired 33 symposia\/sessions, given plenary and keynote lectures, and served in the Program\/Scientific Advisory Committees of 38 meetings. Currently, he serves on the Editorial Board of 18 journals and as Editor-in-Chief of Fermentation (open access journal). Previously, he served as Editor of Process Biochemistry. <\/p>\n
Badal has served as Awards Committee Chair (2000-08), Annual Meeting Program Committee (2003-2005), Annual Meeting Program Chair (2007), Director (2006-08) and President (2010-11) of the Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology (SIMB). He has conveyed 16 sessions at SIMB Annual meetings. He has been on the Editorial Board of JIMB since 1997 and served as Guest Editor of one special issue. This issue contains a review article authored by him which is one of the most cited papers of the journal.
