We are also recognizing David Perlman, and the fermentation award named in his honor. The deadline for nominations has passed, and the award will be given at this years <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simbhq.org\/raft\">RAFT meeting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>David Perlman, a Madison Wisconsin, native, earned his bachelor\u2019s, master\u2019s, and doctoral degrees from the UW-Madison, the latter in biochemistry.  A microbial biochemist, he made several discoveries linked to antibiotics and viotamin B-12 while working at the Squibb Institute for Medical Research in New Jersey.  He returned to UW-Madison on 19567, where he served as dean of the School of Pharmacy from 1968-1975.<\/p>\n<p>Perlman was also the 1979 recipient of the Charles Thom Award.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In addition to celebrating the Society\u2019s 65th meeting, the SIMB archive committee is focusing its booth this year on fermentation.
