SIMB News is a quarterly membership publication that provides relevant society updates and short articles of relevance to SIMB constituents. The issues are printed and sent to membership, as well as published online for archival and general viewing purposes. The term of the current SIMB News Editor-in-Chief, Melanie Mormile, is concluding in August of 2024. We thank Melanie for her service to the Society. SIMB is now seeking a new Editor-in-Chief for SIMB News through an open call to the SIMB membership. All are welcome to apply.

Primary Tasks:

  • – Identify authors/articles for the feature article for each issue of SIMB News
  • – Review and edit each of these articles
  • – Request, receive, and edit material for each section (for example book reviews, calendar, newsworthy, announcements, committee reports, etc.) of the SIMB News
  • – Work with SIMB staff to ensure the SIMB News is assembled and an attractive document is produced
  • – Work together with the editorial board and SIMB publication committee to establish content goals and directions
  • – Continue the modernization of SIMB news to ensure relevant format, content, and delivery

How to apply/Process:

Provide a letter of intent (that includes some ideas you would bring to SIMB news as EIC) and CV to the publication committee chair, Hal Alper (halper@che.utexas.edu).  Applications are being solicited through May 1, 2024. All applications will be reviewed by the publication committee to select the next EIC who will overlap on 2 issues with the current EIC.

Standard Term:

The standard appointment term is 5 years with the possibility of renewal.

SIMB greatly appreciates the service contributed to the Society and community through this volunteer position.
